Tibet

Mysterious places are rare to be found in the world, but Tibet is an exception. With an average elevation of 14,000 feet, Tibet is literally the highest nation on earth. Nearly half the world’s population lives downstream from Tibet with five of Asia's great rivers including the Indus, Mekong and Brahmaputra having their headwaters in the “Roof of the World”.

Combine snow capped Himalayan Peaks touching cobalt blue skies, and majestic turquoise coloured lakes with the spiritual energy of country that embraced Buddhism in the 8th century AD. Since then, a paramount objective of Tibetan culture has been the cultivation of a good heart and a calm, clear mind. Embrace life in the same way Tibetans view Mount Everest, “From the other side”.

On your return to Kathmandu you divert to the region of ‘Mount Everest’ which is simply called Sagarmatha, the “sky head” by the Nepalese. Shortly after leaving Shegar, we head south over the Pang La (5150m) towards the main Himalayan range. The view from the top is incredible with uninterrupted views stretching from Makalu to Shishapangma. Below the pass, Everest initially is hidden from view, but as we turn the corner into the Rongbuk Valley it reappears, more impressive than ever.

High on the remote western Tibetan plateau, in the northernmost region of the Himalayas, sits the mystical mountain - Mount Kailash. The very fact one considers making a pilgrimage to Kailash and Manasarovar is considered a “call from within”! Thousands of Sages, ordinary mortals, philosophers and even Gods have submerged in blissful trance at the very sight of Kailash's divine grandeur!

This revered 22,028-foot peak is the source of four great Asian rivers-the Indus, Brahmaputra, Sutlej, and Karnali-and the ultimate pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists who believe that by devoutly circling the mountain on foot, they will be cleansed of all earthly sins and reach spiritual freedom.
